This could be fun....

A beaver is back in the park. And has built two dams, several yards apart.

And those small dams are already making a difference. The two photographs below are hard to see, but they show a school of fish is living in the pool made by the upper dam.

The latest comings and goings

Nothing special here. But I do see that the deer are in velvet, and everybody else seem to be enjoying their summer.

A busy intersection

A fox built a den this spring in the wetlands just outside Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. As you can see. it's in a pretty busy place.

But the fox, groundhogs, and raccoons don't seem to mind each other's company.

Two items for today.

There's a mammal in the photograph below. Can you find it?

White tail deer generally give birth in May or June.
We'll  be seeing this mother's fawn any day now.

What's really remarkable....

...is that the deer have not dropped their antlers yet. The dates of shedding vary from year to year, but typically are late January to February. I suspect the warm winter has something to do with this. It takes some amount of energy for the deer to keep their antlers, and the relatively easy winter may explain why they are later than usual in dropping them.

There's a story here. I just don't know what it is. 

The latest comings and goings....

I checked the cameras today and noticed that....

• The deer haven't dropped their antlers yet. I expect that will happen pretty soon. 
• The beaver is still active, and has taken branches to Minebank Run to eat, but still there is no dam.
• The raccoons have  been active the last couple weeks. I don't know if that's a seasonal change, or just coincidence.
